Good Bitches Baking is looking for a creative writer to write and curate material for use across our blog, e-newsletter, and social media and occasionally other channels. We’re looking for someone who is comfortable initiating story ideas and approaching interview subjects or guest writers, can write with humour, sensitivity and accuracy, and is maybe also interested in dabbling in video interviews (we’re not looking for high production values!). The Marketing and Communications team includes people who look after our social media, write our blog and recipient stories and curate our e-newsletter. We’re looking for someone who can happily meander from one to the next and see how to use one piece of writing in many different ways. We anticipate the role would be up to about 10 hours a month – more if you want to and sometimes less.

Working location

We're a nationwide charity so you'll be chatting to people all over the motu - which means you can work from wherever you are, at times that suit you (and the people you interview of course).

Proposed project steps with time estimates

This role will support our newsletter and blog editors, our recipient stories and social media teams (all volunteers) and the Marketing & Communications Manager. There's no particular weekly/monthly time expectation but we can discuss stories and turnaround times so they fit into your life.

This is an ongoing role that would suit someone who is keen to do some extra bits of writing and may be interested into stepping into one of the other roles if they become available.

What We Have In Place

We use WhatsApp, email, and phones for internal comms, and GDrive and Canva for file storage and creation, and there are pretty great templates and systems set up. We also have 28 chapters around the country who have their own private FB groups - you'll be a member of these so you can source content and images and your feed will be full of delicious baking photos.

We'll talk you through the role and how everything fits together, and make sure you're comfy - the M&C Manager is on hand if you get stuck.

What we Do
Good Bitches Baking is a nationwide for-purpose organisation  - we’re all about spreading kindness one treat at a time… We have 30 chapters from Whangārei to Invercargill, with 3,100+ volunteers baking delicious treats to deliver to 400+ organisations that support people having a tough time. Alongside our Baking it Better programme, we have  Prison Bake, Business Bitching and Collaborative Bitching and we commissioned a fantastic research report into whether and how community sector organisations use ‘kindness’ as an active intervention in different contexts.  There’s lots of info about what we do and what we care about on our website - www.gbb.org.nz.
