Mary Potter Hospice

Estimated Time: 1 - 7 Hours Over 1 - 1 Days

Mary Potter Hospice hosts an annual gift wrapping fundraising event from Saturday 7 December through to Tuesday 24 December. It's all about wrapping gifts & spreading the cheer of Christmas. We strategically place ourselves outside book stores to help make wrapping easier - rectangle books are the best! However, we do wrap all gifts, no matter where they are purchased from. And we do this all for a gold coin donation. There are two gift wrapping stations. One on Lambton Quay outside Whitcoulls, & the other outside Unity Books on Willis Street. We are seeking a minimum of two people per table up to the 20th, & then 3 people per table from the 21st to the 24th. We'd love to have a team take over a table for a day, join the festive cheer & contribute to a great cause. If you have a team interested, please apply stating your preferred dates. "We could not achieve the financial results without the assistance of you (the volunteer), by supporting our cause to keep palliative care free!"

Working location

Lambton Quay, Willis Street, Wellington from 10am to 4pm or 6pm, from Saturday 7 December through to Tuesday 24 December.

Staff will be there to set up the table at the start of each day. You can feel free to wear your work shirt so people know who is supporting us. A Mary Potter Hospice collection bib will be provided to volunteers, please wear this on top. Extra points for those who wear Christmas hats and tinsel as it attracts more customers!

Lots of Christmas wrapping paper and everything else you need will be provided! You will become an expert at wrapping presents as a result and help a great local cause! If you are stuck for what to buy for your loved ones, then this will provide you some great ideas!

Mission
Mary Potter Hospice provides specialist palliative care services, free of charge, for the people of Wellington, Porirua and Kapiti. We care for people and their family or whanau, where a person’s illness cannot be cured, is getting worse and faced with a limited time to live.
What we Do
We seek to be alongside, supporting and assisting their quality of life, their dying and their bereavement. In the last year we provided care and support for 869 patients and their families living with a life limiting illness. Our vision is that people in our communities who need palliative care have access to compassionate and and quality care, when and where they need it. We support our patients in their own home, in residential care or at our Inpatient Unit in Newtown. Our three community teams are made up of doctors, nurses, counsellors and therapists who provide holistic care and support. Wherever you are the Hospice philosophy applies: care for the whole person, not just your physical needs but also emotional, spiritual and social needs. The goal is to improve the quality of life that remains, understand what matters most in life and focus on the person and their family.
