We are looking for a person with business analyst and project coordination skills to coordinate a project to integrate conservation data between the EcoEngage.NZ and the Univ of Auckland CatchIT data visualisation system and The Urban Rat Project system. The role will involve coordination with the CatchIT team and the EcoTrack team to define data requirements, then to liaise with the EcoTrack developer to set up the reports required to populate CatchIT, then to ensure that the integration process is working well. Volunteering your skills can make a huge difference to conservative outcomes. This project will provide vital support for the volunteers and community groups working to improve NZ's native biodiversity.

Working location

You can work from home, but may need to attend some meetings at the University of Auckland and with the EcoEngage team - either in the city or in Birkenhead.

Proposed project steps with time estimates

The project can be broken up into the following phases:
(1) Predator Data
- coordination with the CatchIT team and the EcoTrack team to identify the existing data requirements for migrating predator control data
- liaise with the EcoTrack developer to set up the reports required to populate CatchIT
- liaise with EcoTrack users to ensure that the integration process is working well

(2) Pest Plant Data
- coordination with the CatchIT team and the EcoTrack team to define data requirements for migrating pest plant control data
- liaise with the EcoTrack developer to set up the reports required to populate CatchIT
- liaise with EcoTrack users to ensure that the integration process is working well

What We Have In Place

The EcoEngage.NZ team is a group of volunteers working to provide better systems for groups and individuals doing conservation and restoration work across NZ.

The systems involved in this proposal already exist: see EcoEngage.NZ for more information.

They are in use by a range of conservation and pest free groups.

Mission
EcoNet collaborates with community groups, Iwi, councils and national bodies to accelerate conservation outcomes. EcoNet is currently about to launch a pilot for the Conservation Activity Management System (CAMS) which will integrate CRM and ArcGIS systems.
What we Do
Aotearoa has many conservation ambitions – to be predator free by 2050, to control pest plants, increase native planting, to restore our waterways, to ensure biosecurity and manage biodiversity. All this will require millions of hours of work by actively engaged volunteers, local groups, iwi, organisations, councils and government It is more than an in-field activity challenge, it is also an information management and social engagement challenge. Currently the IT used in conservation is too outdated, inappropriate and fragmented to overcome these challenges. New Zealand needs integrated, collaborative information technology systems and standards to engage a huge volunteer workforce in a wide spectrum of activities.
