Board Secretary

Board Secretary
Tourette's Association New Zealand

Estimated Time: Over

The Tourette's Association of Aotearoa New Zealand (TANZ) has been supporting children, young people and adults living with Tourette Syndrome and chronic tic disorders since 2013. Every year, the Association supports thousands of New Zealanders as they adjust to life living with Tourette Syndrome, or when supporting a family member or individual with Tourette Syndrome. The vision remains as it has since its inception - that one day the world will be a safe and welcoming place for those living with Tourette Syndrome. Due to the growth of its membership and the scope of the advocacy work that it does with schools, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health, the Association is now looking to strengthen its board to usher in an exciting new phase of growth and development. The TANZ Board currently comprises five members. Due to the growth of the organisation, we are looking to appoint a Board Secretary to support the Board Chair.

Working location

Our board meetings are online every six weeks.

Proposed project steps with time estimates

This role would involve supporting the Board Chair in completing and circulating an agenda in advance of the meeting. During the meeting the Secretary would take the minutes and then circulate these within 7 days from the meeting.

The board meetings are normally every six weeks and run for 90 minutes. Completing the agenda and finalising the minutes would likely be an extra 90 minutes so the time commitment would be 3 hours each six weeks.

What We Have In Place

The Tourette's Association Board is a tight-knit effective group. The Chair of the board would work alongside you to ensure you are supported to succeed in this role.

You wouldn't need governance experience but some experience taking minutes would be advantageous. This would be great exposure to the governance world for someone interested in being a Board Member.
