Bird Monitoring Data Analyst Needed!
Restore Hibiscus & Bays

Estimated Time: 10 - 20 Hours Over 1 - 2 Months

We need a skilled and passionate volunteer to help us analyse three years' worth of bird monitoring data, specifically five-minute bird count data in the Department of Conservation format, to support our ongoing conservation efforts.

Working location

Restore Hibiscus and Bays is based in Auckland but we would love to work with you, where ever you are.

Proposed project steps with time estimates

The project is not urgent, but we would love to have the analysis in time for our next round of monitoring in November so that we can make improvements to the process if needed. Approximately 40 locations with 5 sites at each, currently in standard DOC spreadsheets. Hours required is an estimate as we are not sure how long this will take.

What We Have In Place

Restore Hibiscus and Bays has been dedicated to restoring urban and semi-rural habitats in the Hibiscus and Bays Local Board area since 2017. Our efforts focus on community-based restoration, predator control, and environmental monitoring. The bird count data you will help analyse will be crucial in informing our restoration planning and measuring the success of our projects, enabling us to enhance our strategies and outcomes for a healthier ecosystem.

Mission
Restore Hibiscus & Bays is a community-led initiative that aims to bring together, empower and grow the network of groups, projects, neighbourhoods, individuals, schools, businesses and other organisations working to eradicate pests, restore native habitats and improve water quality.
What we Do
We follow Te Ao Māori principles to foster guardianship, care and respect for our local environment in order to restore it back to health. We have three strategic focus areas: predator eradication, pest plant control and stream restoration. In Hibiscus and Bays, there are multiple community volunteer groups and projects that have been restoring native habitats for decades through removing weeds, suppressing predators and planting native species. Restore Hibiscus & Bays is keen to facilitate a shift within our community-based strategy towards coordinated and connected landscape-scale restoration.
