The Experienced Legal Law Advisor provides high-level legal advice and support, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations. This role involves analyzing complex legal issues, drafting and reviewing legal documents, and offering strategic advice to safeguard the interests of clients or the organization.

Working location

Northland. Remote-only volunteer position with flexible hours.

Proposed project steps with time estimates

Education: Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent law degree from an accredited institution.
Experience:
1. Minimum of 5 years of experience as a legal advisor or in a similar legal role.
2. Proven track record of handling complex legal matters and providing strategic legal counsel.
Skills:
3. In-depth knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and legal principles.
4. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
6. Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
7. Proficiency in legal research tools and databases.
Certifications:
1. Admission to the bar in NZ.
Personal Attributes
1. Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy.
2. Strong ethical standards and integrity.
3. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
4. Adaptable and proactive in a fast-paced environment.
5. Deep understanding of the cultural history in NZ.
6. Te Reo Maori language is advantageous.


This is a voluntary position therefore the hours are flexible.

The Trust aims to help with issues surrounding climate change, environmental aspects of NZ government policies, international involvement, historical and contemporary flora and fauna claims in NZ such as Wai 262 claim which is the largest Māori claim in NZ and well known internationally.
