Estimated Time: 1 - 1 Years Over 20 - 30 Hours

Help shape the strategy of a key organisation that promotes consumer leadership as key to achieving social inclusion, equal citizenship rights and improved mental health services for people who experience mental health distress and/or addiction. We are looking for a volunteer Treasurer for a 1-year term to help ensure responsible financial stewardship and reporting and to help steer the board in strategic planning, culture change, improved governance and risk reporting. Kites Trust is a peer-led mental health organisation which values, respects, and utilises people’s experiences of mental health distress and/or addiction. We work to ensure that people who experience mental health crisis and/or addiction have equal opportunities to live, work and participate in the community. We promote consumer leadership as key to achieving social inclusion, equal citizenship rights and improved mental health services for people who experience mental health distress and/or addiction.

Working location

Monthly meetings in Newtown, Wellington and work from home/remote via email.

Proposed project steps with time estimates

Board of Trustees are responsible for the governance of Kites, which includes developing policies, financial and general accountability and providing strategic guidance to the General Manager and monitoring their performance. Kites Trust is looking for a Board Chair to lead the Board of Trustees.

Skills required:
• Lived-experience of mental health distress and/or addiction and having used mental health services preferred, or exposure to Lived Experience.
• To be far enough along the path of recovery to carry out the responsibilities of the position.
• Experience working in the community or health sector, ideally in a leadership or community facing role.
• A genuine interest in the mission of Kites Trust and desire to promote consumer leadership as key to achieving social inclusion, equal citizenship rights and improved mental health services for people who experience mental health distress and/or addiction.
• Board governance experience preferred.
• An understanding of, and experience with, good financial management and reporting practices.
• A professional accounting designation may be required.
• An appreciation of the kind and level of financial information needed at a board level to support decision making.
• An ability to commit the time required to fulfill the responsibilities described.

Time commitment:
